Paper Boat presents My First Train Ride!

Carefully listening to every announcement. Clapping when our bogey pulled in. "Helping" Papa heft big suitcases. The hoot and shudder of the engine. The song of the tracks. The lull of the rhythm.

The wind in our hair. Oh, the wind in our hair.

It occurred to us at Paper Boat that we've never had the opportunity to say thank you to the unsung heroes who first stirred the ache of wanderlust in us. In a first homage of its kind, we at Paper Boat are celebrating that great carrier of our fondest memories: the Indian Railways.

Come, join our train-ride as we thank TTE uncle, and engine driver sir, and pantry bhaiyya, and station master-ji -- and of course, the long ribbon of blue, red, or green that huffed and puffed us to unforgettable summers in the far, far reaches of our country, and our imaginations.

Here's saluting the greatest, oldest, and most majestic institution to teach us that the thrill of travel is in the journey itself.

We hope you enjoy this journey, one more time: http://bit.ly/2mqtfeG

A Bar Called Life Opens in Juhu

A Bar Called Life, a sprawling space serving innovative cocktails and modern Indian cuisine, opens in Juhu on March 11, 2017.

This latest entrant to Juhu’s nightlife scene features finger foods and fun cocktails with an element of nostalgia. The 200-cover space offers a mix of indoor as well as al fresco seating options. The bar offers competitively-priced alcoholic beverages, with prices starting as low as Rs. 50 per drink each evening at 6:00 p.m., and rising every hour, on the hour, until 11 pm. Each drink features Indian elements, cleverly interwoven into either the presentation or the flavor.

The food menu, conceptualized by Executive Chef Amninder Sandhu, offers a range of wholesome, hearty finger foods, perfect for snacking on while enjoying the extensive cocktail menu. Chef has been inspired by ‘lost recipes,’ drawing on techniques and preparation methods passed down through generations. A selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, featuring seasonal ingredients, will keep diners satiated. Presentation is key also for the food; every dish is a visual delight, appealing to each diner’s sense of fun and whimsy.

Chef Sandhu is the proud recipient of the ‘Best Lady Chef’ award at the National Tourism Awards 2014-15. She was most recently Chef-in-charge at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Her valuable years spent at the hotel’s popular Masala Bay restaurant resulted in learnings that allow her to revive authentic, intense and subtle flavours in every dish she prepares. Chef Sandhu’s cooking style reflects a deep understanding of regional Indian influences, which are unified in her recipes and presentation alike.

Designed to cater to a young, excitement-seeking crowd, A Bar Called Life undergoes a dramatic transformation, after dark. The buzzy, laid-back vibe that guests can enjoy from 6:00 p.m. onwards every evening will turn into a high-energy bar from 11:00 p.m. onwards, complete with unparalleled elements designed to make each night memorable.

A Bar Called Life is the third establishment launched by Aallia Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., an organization catering to the city’s discerning patrons through a series of stylish bars and restaurants with thoughtful, well-curated F&B and late-night offerings.

Mumbai gets its first floating restaurant @bandra worli sea link, and CM DEVENDRA PHADNAVIS INAGUARATED "MY PATH TO PRAJNA" BY AUTHOR LEENA PRABOO

[gallery ids="7181,7180,7179,7178,7177,7176,7175,7173,7172,7171,7170,7169,7168,7167,7166,7165,7164,7163,7157,7155,7154,7153,7152,7151,7150"]

After seeking 108 permissions over a span of three years, AB Celestial has finally become Mumbai’s first floating restaurant. The three-storey boat, with three restaurants and a banquet hall, is anchored on the Bandra end of the sea link and will now be open to the public. WB International Consultant and AB Hospitality have collaborated with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

The boat was earlier launched in 2014 but has been docked at Mumbai Trust Port as it hadn’t received all necessary permissions to operate. “Environment, road and liquor permissions took the longest,” a state official said.

The ground floor of the “floatel” will be a 24-hour coffee shop where as the first floor will be for banqueting. The second floor will be a high end lounge bar and the open terrace will be the sky lounge and dining area.

The boat has a capacity of hosing 660 guests. The food, officials said, is continental and a meal for two persons could cost between Rs 3,000 and 5,000, including drinks.

Currently, states such as Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry already run floating hotels and attract a good number of tourists. Cities like New York, Dubai, Hong Kong and Saigon in Vietnam, have floating restaurants.

If you have been dreaming of a candlelight dinner aboard a floatel in this coastal city, get ready, for in a fortnight's time you will see one such anchored near Bandra-Worli Sealink, amidst the breathtaking view of the sea. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has signed a memo of understanding (MOU) with a private company to commence the facility at Bandra reclamation sea shore towards Mahim end out of Maharashtra Maritime Board jetty.

Says Paraag Jaiin Nainuttia, managing director, MTDC: "There were some technical issues pertaining to commencement of floating restaurant, which are now cleared. All permissions from every department are in place and sea level is cleared with all formalities concerned. Preparations are on for its inaugural, which we expect to be in a fortnight's time."

The floating restaurant has exclusive facilities of three-tiers. There would be an open-to-sky deck with a few galleys and two multi-cuisine restaurants, also a round-the-clock coffee shop and club lounge. It can cater to around 650 to 700 guests at a time. "The floatel would also enhance the image of Mumbai," says Jaiin.

Many used to organise Christmas, new year parties at Gateway of India seashore, which were very popular amongst affluent Mumbaikars. These parties were however discontinued by the police after 26/11 attacks, when 10 Pakistani terrorists who reached the city through the sea, unleashed an attack that killed hundreds of people. Floating restaurant is expected to attract more local and foreign tourists to the city.

Though Maharashtra is one of the most progressive states in the country, it is way behind other states when it comes to floatels. 'Flor do mar' floating restaurant in Goa, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation run floating restaurants, Puducherry tourism corporation's in Karaikal, Bihar's 'Ganga vihar' in the river ganga, Karnataka's cruise n dine', Tamil Nadu's aquana in Chennai backwaters are a few to name in India.

Globally there are marvelous floating restaurants that include barge floating restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, H2o floating restaurant in Richmond, London, Luz de Gas floating restaurant at Port Vell Barcelona, cafe barge floating restaurant in Paris, sea palace restaurant at Amsterdam, wilhelm tell floating restaurant in Lucerne, Switzerland, the triple-decker floating restaurant, Saigon in Vietnam, rustar floating restaurant in Dubai, tristar floating restaurant Bangkok, jumbokingdom at Aberdeen in Hong Kong to name a few.

"It is an excellent idea for Mumbai, which attracts tourists from India and across the globe. The floating restaurant would be an added attraction," said Nowzer Dudhmal, deputy general manager, Taj Lands End hotel.

According to Mahender Singh Churiana, global tourism expert, "Mumbai is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations for foreigners but a floating restaurant was long overdue. It's better late than never." However, the cleanliness and hygiene of the surrounding areas must be maintained; otherwise people will not visit the place, he added.

The icing on the cake is

HAPPY HOLI- HAPPY HOLI WITH ORGANIC COLOURS -ORGANIC SHOP

  • I wish you to have a colorful and joy able holi... May the color of happiness fulfill your life's Journey throughout the Life. Happy Holi!

Holi is a Hindu spring festival in India, also known as the "festival of colours" or the "festival of love". The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships, and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest. This year it will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, 2017 all over the world with Holika Dahan preceding the festival on the night of 12th March.

http://organicshop.in/home-garden/special-products/organic-holi-colors

The colorful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which comes in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. The colorful festival bridges the social gap and renew sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other 'Happy Holi'.
Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on the Holi eve. Numerous legends & stories associated with Holi celebration makes the festival more exuberant and vivid. People rub 'gulal' and 'abeer' on each others' faces and cheer up saying, "bura na maano Holi hai". Holi also gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones wrapped in a special GIFTS..

  • Play safe. Don't get to boisterous and do not let others to be rude on you.

  • The best option would be to play with natural home made colours. Your skin and hair will feel tampered with the use of skin friendly natural products.

  • USE ORGANIC HOLI COLOURS...

  • Use more of red or pink colours which looks good and can easily taken off. Gaudy purple, green, yellow, orange have more harmful chemicals in them and should be avoided.

  • Make sure that your face is well creamed before and after the play.

  • Apply thick coating of paint on your nails- both in fingers and toes so that they remain protected.

  • Oil your hair well, so that colour doesn't stick on your hair and can be washed off easily later.

  • Cover your hair. Make use of hat or caps to protect your hair from being coloured with hard-to-rinse dyes.

  • Make sure that powder or any other product does not get inside your eyes. Eyes are extremely vulnerable on Holi because of their strategic place in body and also because of the use of harmful chemicals in colors these days. Please ensure that your eyes remain protected at all times. Use a sunglass to protect your eyes from a misfire of colour filled darts or water jets.

  • Use dental caps to save your teeth from any unwanted stains.

  • Put on your worst clothes so that you won't have to take on the hassles of an immediate washing.

  • Rags like tattered denims and bright shades like black, blue, green, purple are highly recommended.

  • Try to save yourself off from all possible attacks on the face. In case your such attempts fail, keep your eyes and lips tightly shut if you are attacked on your face.

  • If possible avoid going outside your home, atleast for the peak hours of celebration. The premises of your home ensure that you are safe from pouncing hooligans, even friends who can be a little rough on the day.

  • When traveling keep the car windows thoroughly shut, even if you don't have an AC car. Do not bump into the frenzied group of mob if you take to streets. Better you cross the road to the sidewalk across. Or, simply stay at a safe distance.

  • Do not use permanent dyes. If someone has applied it on you, do not rub the face with soap immediately in order to get rid off it, especially when it is wet. Instead, use good quality cleansing milk for removal. It's better than using soap, which will dry up your skin.

  • Rotten eggs when thrown on your head, flying missiles from locality buildings…are still not too bad, will be smelly yet is a good conditioner for your hair. But tar, shit, Mobil, stones and all the rubbish that you can be hit with is not. Avoid being a prey to hooligans.

  • Remember you also have police on your side and if any untoward revelers misbehave, you can make your complaint. Mark out the locality, building and if possible the person.

  • Take a bath much later after the entire Holi celebration is over. Taking frequent baths, washing the face again and again, will ruin your skin. You will also lose hair, for too much soap/shampoo has a drying effect.

  • If you are prone to skin allergies, avoid playing with gulal altogether. Going to a dermatologist (skin specialist) serves no purpose, after the damage is done.

  • Avoid running on jumping on wet floors, so that you don't slip and injure yourself. Bones are specially vulnerable on this day.

  • Avoid over indulgence in bhang, drinks or food... so that you don't repent later.

  • Do not drive if you are high on alcohol or bhang.

  • Keep handy pain killers, anti-oxidants, anti-allergic tablets if all the above tips have been disregarded.

#NoToFoodPoisoning LAL HIT SUPER HIT - HOLI-HAPPINESS. AND A HABIT THAT GIVES ME MENTAL PEACE

HOLI. HAPPINESS. AND A HABIT THAT GIVES ME MENTAL PEACE

Holi is celebrated as the festival of colours widely.

Holi, this year is on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun i.e the 13th of March. Holi heralds the arrival of spring - the season of hope and new beginnings. It is a glorious spectacle, a riot of colours - crimson, red, pink, orange, purple, yellow and green. ( Btw. Did you know that the practice of throwing coloured powder gulal or coloured water on each other is in  remembrance of the celestial fun Lord Krishna have had playing hori (songs) with the gopis (female cowherds) at Gokul.? )

Another inseparable component of Holis is the Holi- special food. While the taste and culture changes from place to place, the love for food runs thick all across. Take the case of the holi-special drink Thandaai, I am sure you have had tasted it sometime already :) There’s much more food-choices even beyond. For e.g. Maharashtrians prefer Puran Poli while North Indians prepare Shakarpara and gujjias - a sweet samosa filled with mava, coconut, dry fruits which is fried and dipped in a sugar syrup. Gujaratis make sweet khichidi and sweets like kheer, basundi and halva.

Let me, at this point, tell you the special way I have been celebrating Holi since years, and how love & food play all-important roles there.

So, it’s been 10 years that I have adopted 28 underprivileged kids and my Holi is all about being the entire day with them, preparing special food for them and ensuring that I truly make the day about love, bonding’s and hopefully great beginnings.

I feel playing the mother of 28 kids comes with a lot of responsibilities too. For e.g. the cleanness and rigour that I put into making the Holi-special dishes for them. A lot of this discipline starts with how I keep my kitchen hygienic, which means I go beyond what is superficial & take care of the hidden dangers too. Just like cockroaches, while there are few one can see at any point of time, there are possibly scores of them at any point of time hiding in hard to reach corners like under the cylinder, sink, cracks and crevices of your kitchen

Cockroaches carry deadly germs and bacteria. They come behind the back, crawl on food and utensils, contaminate food and spread Food Poisoning. While family members and guests suffer, kids are the first ones to get these infections. Thankfully I got educated on this year’s back by a close friend who introduced me to the (possibly only) solution - LAL HIT

LAL HIT eliminates not just the visible but the hidden cockroaches too. It comes with a Deep Reach Nozzle that eliminate roaches even in the deep corners, cracks and crevices.

Thanks to LAL HIT as a part of my monthly kitchen-cleaning ,now when I am playing mother to the 28 kids and cooking a storm for them, I know I have done the best to save them from food poisoning spread by hidden cockroaches too.

(Not to mention the pleasant fragrance that it comes in that keeps even the ones allergic to the quintessential ‘pest-solution’ smell, happy)

And by the way this is a sneak peek to one of the special dishes that I have planned for this year’s HOLI. Leave your reaction as a comment … :)

#Snackonyoghurt - HEALTHY RECIPES BY CHEF. VARUN-I don't really believe in diets. I love food... If I deprive myself, I'm going to snack on DANONE yogurt

I feel better all day if I start off by eating healthy. Breakfast is simple: multigrain toast with natural peanut butter, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, or healthy cereal.
I wasn't eating the right kinds of calories. I didn't know about healthy carbs such as brown rice and lentils. Now I eat small meals throughout the day: oatmeal with cinnamon to start, fruit and yogurt as a snack, and vegetables or with chicken or tuna, and a healthy carb, like a yam, for lunch.

yoghurt - a healthy and tasty snack  NEWLY LAUNCED TODAY by @danone Danone #Snackonyoghurt - yoghurt is a cultured milk product that is soured and thickenened by the action of specific lactic acid- prducing cultures added to milk.. the lactic acid produced by the culture coagulates the milk protein , thickening the milk and adding the characteristic sour flavor.. the starter cultures (bacteria) used to make yoghurt and llactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus....

yoghurt is differnt from curd or dahi.. the basic differnce lies in its method of preperation and also the beneficial bacterial strains that are used for the fermentation of milk. yoghurt is created by bacteria fermentation of milk using the above mentioned bacterial strains, while curd is processed by curdling milk with rennet or an acidic substance like vinegar or lemon juice ,...

chef . varuninamdar teached us three types of recipes by using danone products......

he talked baout the nutrilicious snack otpion..... he made us aware by advising how it helps in our day to day life.. he made it a point by saying danone yoghurt is the healthier option , yoghurts nutrient density is better than other snacks.... he made me understand the value of my health...being a mother of 28 cancer kids.. he teached us how yoghurt has a huge potential to occupy the healthy snack and dessert space in the cnahging indian diets....

thanks varun, yesterday itself i had for dinner two cups danone yoghurt,,,, i loved both the flavours....
