IN MY HOUSE ITS BORING DAILY IDLI... SO BOTH KIDS ARE SO SAD AND TOLD TODAY WE WONT IDLI. FED UP ..BUT WE DONT WANT TO EAT ANY THING OILY.. ONLY STEAMED FOOD WE WANT THAT TOO DIFFERENT.... OMG WHAT TO DO ..IAM IN A FIX..... AFTER SO MUCH ARGUMENTS FINALLY DID A YUMMY IDLI FOR THEM I KEPT THE NAME AS GEETUS IDLI...

Raw rice (sona masoori) - 1 cup

Idli rice - 1 cup

Urad dal (White, whole) - 3/4 cup

Fenugreek seeds / methi seeds/ vendhayam - 1 tsp

Salt - As needed

Ghee - 2 tblsp

Black pepper, whole or crushed coarsely - 1 tblsp

Jeera - 1 tblsp

Cashew nuts (Optional) - Few

Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Asafoetida - 2 pinches

Dry ginger powder (Sukku) - 2 pinches

Soak urad dal & methi seeds, rice as we soak for the regular idli. You can soak together and grind too, I have tried both ways, but I prefer soaking separately and grinding separately as I do for the regular idli. This way it comes out really good with full flavour. If you are comfortable soaking together and grinding, then you can do so, but the texture comes a bit denser than grinding separately.

Steam for 15 – 20 mins ......YUMMY KANCHIPURAM IDLI READY....

YES TO DAY HOW TO BE HEALTHY AND

ENERGETIC AT THE AGE OF 40 PLUS....

THE HEALTHY REGIME MAKES US MORE YOUNG AND STRONG... TODAY I TEACH YOU HOW TO MAKE THIS UPPUMA.

WE NEED A CHANGE IN OUR BREAKFAST ..DAILY FRUITS SALADS WHY SUMTHING DIFF TODAY I TRIED ...
This upma is prepared with varagu known as kodo millet in English, is gluten-free, highly nutritious, fiber rich and is very filling.

I DID PLAIN UPPUMA TODAY BUT YOU CAN ADD ALL VEGETABLES IN IT.

Onion-1/2 cup chopped
   Green chilli-1 slit
   Ginger- 1 inch piece
   Mixed vegetables- 1 cup
   Varagu/ kodo millet- 1/2 cup
   Water-1 1/2 cup
   Salt needed

  For the seasoning

   Oil- 2 tsp
   Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
   Urad dal -1 tsp
   Red chilli -1
   Hing- a pinch
   Curry leaves- few

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, red chillies and hing.
When dal turns golden brown, add finely chopped onions, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and saute until onions turn transparent. Then add all the vegetables (carrot, beans, peas and potato) and saute for a few minutes.

Add 1 1/2 cup of water and salt needed.add the millets stirring continuously. Cover and cook on low heat stirring from time to time.Serve hot with any chutney of your choice.

You get varagu (kodo millet) with hull and without hull. I have used varagu with hull, that is why it is brown in color. Whether you use kodo millet with hull or without hull, the method is the same.

Raw Rice - 1/2 cup
Moong Dal - 3 tbsp
Crushed Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Boiled Full Fat Milk - 3 cups + 1 cup
Water - 1 cup
GHEE - 1/4 cup
Cashews - 6 broken
Raisins - 10
Saffron - 4 strands
Cardamom powder - a tiny pinch
Edible Camphor - a very tiny piece
Akkaravadisal also called as Akkara Adisil is a traditional Iyengar speciality.

MY HUBBY ALWAYS LOVES SWEETS..ANY TYPES IF IT SWEET HE EATS ANYTHING......

TRIED THIS YUMMY DESSERT IT CAME OUT VERY WELL.

Take powdered jaggery in a pan, add water to it and mash it well so that the jaggery dissolves quickly. Then heat it up and let it boil for in medium flame for 3-5mins until the syrup becomes slightly thick...no need to check for any consistency.Strain to remove impurities and set aside.

Rinse raw rice and moong dal well strain water.Dry roast it for 3 mins until nice aroma comes. Then in a thick bottomed vessel add 3 cups of milk and add raw rice moong dal to it.

Add a small plate inside the vessel, this is to avoid milk from overflowing.Carefully place the vessel inside a pressure cooker containing little water.Close and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles in low medium flame.Once pressure releases take out the vessel from the pressure cooker open and mash it well with a laddle.

Now add the jaggery syrup and mix well. Then switch on the flame, keep the vessel and add remaining 1 cup milk to it and let it cook for 5mins in low flame. Now add ghee.Add edible camphor and cardamom powder and mix well.Simmer for another 5mins till it comes together.

Take a tsp of warm milk and add saffron to it and crush it well.Fry cashews and raisins in a tsp of ghee. Finally once the rice dal mixture comes to a more pudding like consistency add saffron milk, cashews and raisins and switch off.

GARNISH WITH YOUR CHOCIE..MY HUBBY LOVES CASHEWS SO I PUT MORE CASHEWS....

YUMM  YUMMY IT WAS......

                                                         ALL IN ONE CUTLET
