The method is the same as that of vatha kuzhambu.
Take a pan, pour 4-5 spoons gingelly oil, season with mustard, thoor dal, venthayam, curry leaves, asafetida, turmeric powder and immediately put the sambar podi and add little water so that it doesn't get burnt, then add small onions and garlic (optional) saute for a min and then pour the tamarind extract and add required salt.
Now comes the climax. Once it bexomes thick to the desired consistenxy add little jaggery. Grind 2-3 spoons grated coconut, sombu and one Patta. Add this paste and let it boil for max 2-3 mins.
