FEELING PROUD TO BE WITH GANDHI
I WAS WONDERING WHAT NEW THINGS THEIS MUSICAL WOULD TELL US.
WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT GANDHI AND SEEN A PLAETHORA OF PLAYS OF GANDHI AND HAD KNOWN FAIRLY A GOOD AMOUNT OF TRAVAILS OF GANDHIJI.
BUT THIS GANDHI - THE MUSICAL IS AN ENGLISH MUSICAL ON MAHATMA GANDHI - WHICH IS INDIAS FIRST MUSICAL ON THE FATHER OF THE NATION.
ITS GOT A GENRE OF MUSIC OF FOOR EVERYONE - ROCK, JAZZ, RAZZMATAZZ, CLASSICAL, AND THE LOVE SONGS TOO FOR THOSE WANT A LITTLE ROMANCE IN THEIR LIVES.
BUT I WAS PROVED WRONG WHEN THE CURTAINS OPEN AND THE MUSICAL STARTED, IT KEPT US GRIPPED TO OUR SEATS FROM THE WORD GO.
IT WAS AN OUTSTANDING EXPOSITION OF GANDHIJI AND ONE OF THE BEST PLAYS I HAVE SEEN RECENT TIMES.
Danesh R Khambata, Director SAID The musical focuses on the human side of Gandhi in his formative years before he became a legend. And we tell the story through many anecdotes, many of which are barely known.It has been a huge, huge challenge to bring the hard-working cast and crew, and the music and dance together. And we are hoping for the best.
GANDHI WILL ALLOW A 14 YEAR OLD TO ENJOY THE COURTROOM CIRCUS NUMBER AND A 75 YEAR OLD TO ENJOY GANDHIJIS FAVOURATE BHAJAN - VAISHNAVO JANTOO.
AND FOR THOSE COLLEGE KIDS - THERE IS THE HEAVY METAL ROCK NUMBER DURING THE RIOTS.

You have seen his life spun out in quite a few memorable films and plays. But in what’s a first, Mahatma Gandhi will come alive in a Broadway-style musical on Independence Day weekend. Presented by National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA) in association with Silly Point Productions, Gandhi - The Musical, will come powered with 16 original songs, two adaptations, and 12 dance numbers!
The 120-minute production, made with a budget of one crore, will narrate the journey of Gandhi, taking the audience through the many trials and triumphs of his early years in South Africa, to when he came to be known as the beloved father of our nation. Popular theatre artiste Chirag Vora PLAYED the iconic role of Gandhi, while his younger self would be played by Abhishek Krishnan.
The musical will also feature Bollywood actor Boman Irani as ‘The Raj’ – a voice that portrays the system that Gandhi was constantly battling against.
The play is in English but some of the songs are in Hindi and Gujarati because some expressions are best showcased in those languages.
Gandhi - The Musical will showcase an astounding variety of music - from
Raghupati Raghav to Hindi and Gujarati songs composed against
an European orchestra, to even an industrial dubstep number.
The songs have been composed by Nariman Khambata and Rahul Pais, while the 12 dances have been choreographed by Bertwin D’Souza. While scripting began a year back, it took all of five months to put the production together with a cast and crew of 45.
TINY CHILDREN SAT SILENTLY THROUGH THE PLAY AND I ENJOYED IT EVERY BIT .
THE JAMSHED BHABHA THEATRE, +NCPA Mumbai REVERBERATED WITH THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE AFTER THE PLAY. THE PLAY IS ON STILL AUGUST 21.
AND A MUST WATCH FOR EVERYONE.
