1 cup yellow moong dal (pasi paruppu)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
5 tbsp ghee
Chopped nuts
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
5 tbsp ghee
Chopped nuts
Method
Soak yellow moong for 4-5 hrs. Grind it into a semi coarse paste. Not too pasty or very much coarse.
In a pan, add sugar and 1/4 cup water n stir it. Add some cardamon powder n saffron to it n stir. Make syrup until it forms single string consistency. Switch off flame n keep it aside. U can add a small lemon wedge to it so DAT it will not for crystals.
In a heavy bottom pan, add ghee. When it is hot add the dal paste n keep stirring.. The dal should cook in the ghee completely. The raw smell will go off when dal is cooked. I stirred for 20-25 mins for dal to get cooked. Then add the sugar syrup n keep stirring so DAT dal doesn't form lumps.. Keep stirring until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan. Switch off the flame.
In a pan, add ghee. When it's hot add chopped nuts n fry till golden brown. Add this to the halwa n mix. Halwa is ready!
